AdWords Campaign Management - Wrong and Right

May 31, 2008

by Kirt Christensen

Most mistakes people make in their Google AdWords campaign managements are pretty common, and 90 percent of Google campaigns can be greatly improved with less than an hour of effort. You can save yourself hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars in the hour you spend following our instructions in this article.

Want to know what the number-one mistake people make is in Google AdWords campaign management? Improperly organized campaigns. Badly organized ads and keywords cripple your Google campaigns and cost you a ton of money.

With campaigns put together in the proper way will have good results from the start. At that point optimizing them and making adjustments is a simple task. As time goes on this can make a big difference.

In a utopian world everytime someone typed in a keyword you would have the perfect ad for that keyword. With all those different keywords, you have a unique ad for each one. Say you have two thousand keywords, then you would need to write two thousand ads.

But for the world that we live in that is not practical. The answer is clustering similar keywords with one ad.

An ad campaign is the file cabinet that holds all your ad groups, it’s topic is general. An ad group is the smallest unit that has keywords and ads in it. Your ad campaign should always have more than one adgroup.

In one Google account, you can have nearly unlimited campaigns. You may be selling many different services on completely different topics, at totally different websites. All from your one Google account.

How you separate your campaigns is up to you. How you separate ad groups, however, is one of those areas where there’s a right way and a wrong way.

Someone starting out might put their campaign together this way:

Smith Telecommunication

Robust Answers for

Your Total Voice Mail Needs

www.smithtelecoms.com

With this as their ad their keyword list has this appearance:

auto attendant

business telephone systems

call management systems

voice mail

voice mail equipment

voice mail service

voice mail systems

When the prospective clients click, they are all directed to the same homepage. This page has a variety of links to pages with titles from Contact Us to Equipment. What is the problem with this type of AdWords management?

The first problem is that the keyword list is too varied. Keywords should be divided into AdWord groups with only similar keywords or phrases.

The ad doesn’t match the keywords, and it can’t, because there are too many different kinds of keywords in the group.

“Smith Telecommunications,” or the name of almost any business, is a lousy headline. The clickthrough rate (CTR) is going to be very low, and therefore the bid prices will be higher.

The ad is about Smith Telecommunications, not what the customer really wants. Your ads need to be about your customer, not about yourself!

A person who searches for “voice mail service” needs to be taken to a page about voice mail service; a person who searches for equipment needs to be taken to a different web page about voice mail equipment. These are two entirely different topics. If a person has to figure out where to go after they land on your web page, you’re making them work too hard. You need to show them exactly what they were searching for.

Structuring your campaign correctly from the start will help this to work out more easily. Proper structuring starts with Wordtracker (www.wordtracker.info) or Overture (http://inventory.overture.com) to get them laid out in small groups of closely related terms. This is how they might look:

Voice Mail Services (adgroup)

voice mail provider

voice mail service

voice mail service provider

voice mail services

Voice Mail System (adgroup)

voice mail systems

voice mail systems for realtors

telemarketing and voice mail systems

phone systems voice mail

home office voice mail systems

home office telephone voice mail systems

Auto Attendant (adgroup)

answering attendant auto system

auto attendant voice mail services

auto attendant

auto attendant phone system

auto attendant software

auto attendant system

auto attendant voice mail

phone auto attendant

Before assembling these into a campaign, serious thought (and work) should be given to negative keywords. These are some keywords for “Voice Mail Software”.

voice mail software

voice mail business software

voice mail software for panasonic

voice mail broadcasting software

voice mail business software

multiple voice mail software

mac voice mail software

multi-line voice mail system software vru

norstar voice mail software

software to record voice mail

free voice mail software

You might not want visitors who want something for free. Your company also has nothing to do with voice broadcasting and you don’t have anything for Macintosh computers. So turn those into negative keywords by putting a minus sign in front of them. The above list now looks like this:

voice mail software

voice mail business software

voice mail software for panasonic

voice mail business software

multiple voice mail software

multi-line voice mail system software vru

norstar voice mail software

software to record voice mail

Negative Keywords:

free

mac

macintosh

broadcast

broadcasting

So when you set up your ad campaigns, each one of these keyword lists is going to go into a different group with its own set of ads.

Managing Your AdWords - Utilizing E-Mails

May 31, 2008

by Kirt Christensen

Get your customers to stay with you three times as long by using email correctly. Email is the most personal way to contact someone on the internet. Using email you can build trust and create and a whole business based on your personality, and sell to your clients repeatedly.

Discussions about AdWords are not complete without talking about how to make a lasting relationship out of that costly fraction-of-a-second click. When a person clicks on your Google ad, you are charged fifty cents no matter what happens next. If that person stays on your page less than 5 seconds, he is out of there and you most likely won’t see him again without another costly click.

Holy Cow! At fifty cents for 5 seconds of time, that figures out to be Six hundred dollars an hour. That could depress you if you look at it that way. But, if you can get this guy’s email address, you can have correspondence with him regularly for no significant additional cost. If you have a One thousand dollar item to sell what is more likely for you to get from him: a One thousand dollar order or his email address?

The more complex your sales process; the more important it is to break it up into bite-sized steps.

The Strength Of Your E-Mails Is Centered On Being Personal.

Run-of-the-mill advertisers have little respect for the personal nature of e-mail. They don’t realize how easy it is to turn off otherwise receptive prospects to their message, just by violating that.

When you are composing your emails write as is you are talking to one person, unless you are writing to a group where each member knows the other members. Writing to a crowd when your email is addressed to individuals is that last thing you want to do. Speak to your client, an individual.

1. A “From” Field that Shows You’re a Real Person

If a personal approach works for the actual text of your e-mail messages, chances are that same principle will apply to other details in your e-mail. Such as your “from” field, for example. Consider the different impressions these “from” lines create:

Bill Kastl

William Kastl

William D. Kastl

Nakatomi Corporation

William D. Kastl, Nakatomi Corporation

Nakatomi Sales Department

Bill Kastl, Nakatomi Sales

You want to be warm and personal without looking like spam. This is a challenge because spammers are themselves always trying to make their messages look like they’re from some forgotten old friend. The key is to say something that is so specific to their particular interests they know no spammer would ever come up with it.

Choose your “from” field so that your clients can identify with you and stay with you.

2. A Provocative Subject Line

The context of your email is what will spell success or failure for your email. The subject line will work, not because of a standardized copywriters rule, but because they say something about what a targeted group of people are interested in at that moment.

If we showed you generic examples of e-mail subject lines, it would be almost impossible for them to not sound like spam. So let’s take examples from a specific context that you understand: Google AdWords

An Opt-in list - your secret weapon to Building Internet Wealth

May 27, 2008

by Simon Whincop

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…

Having endlessly sought expert advice, read countless articles and listened to numerous stories about people who’ve built unimaginable wealth on the Internet using their vast opt-in lists, you finally decide it’s time to have one of your own. Now under the illusion you know everything, you follow all the advice to the Tee. And you fail to make even a single penny.

In fact, you’re losing money. Fast. Being rather lazy, you hired writers to help out with your articles, and when that didn’t work your month’s budget on a doomed Pay-Per-Click campaign. Perhaps your list even got quite big. But only a tiny percentage actually converts to sales.

Either way, you’ve failed to make any profit, and after a few months’ daily scrutiny of your statistics and sales figures, you come to the conclusion that your dreams of Internet wealthbuilding lie in ruins.

You ask yourself what could possibly have gone wrong. You wonder why others have succeeded where you have failed. You begin to think you were too hasty, diving straight in like that. You begin to doubt the validity of your product, or worse, your own ability.

Sound familiar?

All is not lost, however - don’t forget that just because you emailed people on your list does not mean they’ll buy instantly. As an Internet marketer, you need a bit of patience!

If you’ve already started an opt-in list and think you failed, or even if you’re just starting out, here are three quick and easy steps that you should try and follow:

1) Make sure you are selling product or service is one that people really need.

And know your product inside out. Too many people don’t bother to do this. And you can’t really expect your subscribers to buy something you haven’t bothered to research or learn about thoroughly, can you now? Your knowledge and belief, remember, is carried forward to your customers. If you appear unknowledgeable that will carry forward too. Take some time and effort to research your product thoroughly.

2) Join forums, where you can provide expert advice and recommendations, allowing you to build an aura of trust around you. By doing this you can build a base around other forum users, inviting them to join your opt-in list. Because they know and trust you already, they will make good customers. Through your forum posts link to your site they will be able to see what your business is all about. They’ll begin to believe in you and your products. You can increase your credibility even more by writing and submitting articles and posting blogs, which will also build more potential subscribers and customers.

3) Make friends with other opt-in list users (forums are an invaluable tool here, too). Let them mentor you - someone who has already launched a successful opt-in list will be able to tell you what to do and what not to do, They can steer you clear of potential pitfalls and mistakes to avoid, because they have gone through it themselves. Experience is the best teacher, and there is nothing better than learning from the mistakes of others!

Building a profitable opt-in list doesn’t happen overnight. It takes great preparation and effort. Opt-in lists have to be built from scratch and, once built, take some maintenance. Keep yours organized and manageable. But use it to Keep your subscribers happy and they’ll be willing to buy from you time and time again. Build your list, build Internet wealth!

Read This If You Are A Blogger

May 27, 2008

by Tony P

When I was a child, the only place I would ever think to put my most private thoughts was in the locked diary that I kept hidden, or at least I think was hidden.

Even then, there was much I would not write there for fear that someone would find it. Today, there are many that share those same personal thoughts with the entire world through a blog.

This is like an online diary that is accessible by anyone who finds it. Before you begin such an endeavor, you should get some blogging advice.

You can make mistakes when you post in your blog, and that is why blogging advice is so important.

Do not think that no one is reading your blog, so be careful of what you write.

The thing is that what you wrote may be private and these are the things that you do not want the public to know.

This blogging advice tells you that you should think of your profession when you post. If you are a doctor or a nurse, pictures or stories about your wild party nights are not going to reflect well.

People often search the internet to find out about the people they are hiring. What you write on the blog can make or break your job application.

If you have children, you may want to check what kind of blog they are surfing. You can either tell them that they cannot blog or that they require your approval of what they are blogging.

This is because they often blog about obvious thing which can be dangerous if too much privacy are revealed.

Keep your personal life out of the blog.

Monitor what they do and say for their own safety and your peace of mind. That might be the most important advice on blogging that you can find.

Tips on Internet Marketing Services

May 27, 2008

by Gary Terrazas

Internet marketing services need to fulfil an Internet business’s goals in order for all its activities to do well.

There are a great variety of good and lousy Internet marketing affiliate programmes and services available and so the task of choosing the best one for you may be quite overwhelming.

So, the first step in identifying the best provider of Internet services for your business is to learn the difference between what is a good Internet marketing programme and what is not!

Being able to tell the difference right off will prevent a promising company from being ripped off by those out there who prey on businesses in need of Internet marketing services for their company.

A super tool to make use of is one known as affiliate marketing. But before you investigate this route, know that Internet marketing services affiliates that are of any worth do not charge you to subscribe to their membership or charge you for services that have not yet supplied. Therefore it may be best to avoid any marketing affiliate programme that requests money before you receive any value.

Search engine marketing opportunities are another valuable tool that you can avail yourself of. Based on your target market it requires that you optimise your website specifically for the most popular search engines. I.e. Google and Yahoo. Although, whichever search engine you decide upon, ensure that they reach your particular target market.

Try to understand what works with each of the major search engines and what does not work. That way you can effectively create a combination or blend of different SEO techniques that would be able to cut across.

An additional great search engine marketing tool is known as PPC. The option available to you through PPC is to pay for your PPC programme with a search engine of your choice or else you can identify a website with high traffic and simply place your advert with them.

Do not end up placing adverts on websites with high traffic but low in relevant traffic. An ad for video games might not said to be well placed if it was paid to be placed on a popular financial magazine website.

If you decide to use the services of an Internet marketing company or consultant take care to pick the best. Take time to make adequate research into their pedigree and history. Look at past projects they have done. Ask them for their resume, ask if they have existed under any other name in the past and research that too.

Determine their capabilities by asking the Internet marketing company you identify how they foresee themselves adding value to your business. Keep in mind that lousy companies keep their secrets to themselves but honest companies are happy to share information with you.

Choose the best from the many Internet marketing companies available to ensure that your business is successful.

The Benefits of Autoresponders

May 27, 2008

by Daniel Beckett

Autoresponders are extremely useful tool for any business with a web presence. They allow communication with customers in ways not possible through traditional e-mail.

How Automated Email Can Help Web Businesses

Automated email is cheaper than paying someone to handle all email personally. Rather than wasting your own time handling email yourself or money on hiring someone else to take care of it, you can set up automated responses to requests for information.

Easy to Run: The number one complaint of most business owners is their inability to be away from the business. Your business becomes so much easier to run and you don’t have to physically be there when you use autoresponders.

Customer satisfaction. Modern customers expect modern business solutions, including the most modern techniques of email response. Most customers today aren’t satisfied with waiting for information, and their attention will wane if they aren’t provided with an email within minutes of sending out a request. With an autoresponder, you can guarantee that they’ll get that reply within minutes, if not seconds.

Advanced marketing techniques. Email lists can be an absolutely vital tool when attempting to sell a product. Autoresponders even allow a wide degree of flexibility when building up email lists, allowing the creator to split their signups based on a number of criteria, letting the small business owner tailor his message to various types of customers rather than sending out one generic message.

Autoresponders Give Your Business the Winning Edge

Selling a product online is all about technology and customer service. Autoresponders are a powerful tool that can be used to help increase online sales by significant numbers.

Uses for email autoresponders

Give your visitors an easy way to receive a “printer friendly” version of your sites main sales messages.

Set up an automated series of messages to help keep your product fresh in the customer’s mind.

Give the customers a reason to sign up by offering a series of emails on a business related topic.

Collect addresses for you email ezine which will give you periodic access to your site’s visitors. You can sell advertising in your ezine or just use it to promote your products and services.

Advantages of a Home Based Business

May 27, 2008

by joe cotroneo

Working from home is a dream for many people who are tired of working for someone else of just want to improve their current lifestyle. The internet has made working from home easier then it ever has been before. It is important though that you realize the success of your home based business will not happen over night. Just as with any other business endeavor it will take time, effort and flexibility from you in order to get the results you are dreaming of. Whether you want to start an internet home business or a traditional home based business the advantages of either are worth the dedication, patience, persistence and discipline that will be required from you.

The ability to start small and gradually build a home based business is one of the most alluring aspects of this process. Many people are still able to keep their regular job until they have cultivated their business to the point where they can afford to run it as a full time venture. Starting a home based business becomes a perfect compromise for someone who has a family and needs to keep earning a certain amount of money through another job in order to secure financial stability.

Another advantage of starting a home internet based business is the low start up cost. As long as you have a computer and an internet connection, you can start a home based business if you have one or more products or services to sell. Even a web presence can be achieved easily and economically.

The benefit to your family life is another advantage of starting your own home based business. Your schedule will be more flexible working from home and you will be able to be available for important school events and other family needs. The savings in travel time to and from work every day, can be used for quality family time, to build your business or for personal development.

Home based businesses tend to have low overheads and if they are internet based, are portable. You can have a global customer base and work from anywhere that has an internet connection. Offline home businesses can also be portable but tend to be region specific.

Online marketing tools and strategies also tend to be less expensive than offline services. In fact, many of the marketing resources available on the internet are actually free. You simply have to know what you are doing and be willing to put in the work. An example of this is the use of article marketing to generate website traffic. If you are willing to learn how to market on the internet, you will be able to build your home based business with minimal cost.

Another advantage of starting a home based business is that you will be able to gain tax benefits for working at home which can offset some of your current home expenses. For example, the percentage of your home you use for your business can be claimed as a tax deduction as can a percentage of power costs. You can also claim training and business related educational expenses.

Starting a home based business is not the most difficult part of the process. It is elevating your ideas and turning a profit that isn’t as easy. Nevertheless, if you are prepared to do a little research; put in the time; and make an honest effort, you can become a success and take advantage of the convenience of working on your own business at home. Today, there are plenty of successful people reaping these same benefits.

What is a Domain Name or a Website Name?

May 26, 2008

by Jason Klein- NPSIS.com

Your website communicates with other computers and the internet by using its network adapter or NIC (Network Interface Card) that is within the server. This card and thereby the server uses a unique address known as an IP address. An IPv4 ip address is a address annotated as four numbers segmented by dots. Each segment or octet can have a value between zero and 255, so your dedicated server or business computer address format would look similar to this: 172.16.65.17 On a Windows Server you can determine what the server ip address is by selecting the start button then selecting run. Type in ipconfig and click “OK”, a black command prompt should appear in which you can type ipconfig. On a Linux Server you can open a terminal window and type ifconfig. You can use the same command on your home Windows or Linux system to determine your static dedicated ip address.

Technology has simplified browsing for websites through the use of something called a host file. A host file translates a website name into the assigned IP address. So when you use your internet web browser to browse a website, it communicates to the web server using the ip address. The host file is stored in the c:windowssystem32driversetc directory on a windows computer and in the /etc directory on linux and unix systems.

Have you ever been to 1313 S Harbor Blvd in Anaheim California? Do you know what is at that address? If I had said “Have you ever been to Disney Land?” chances are that you would have immediately known what I was talking about. 131 S Harbor Blvd, Anaheim, California 92802 is the equivalent of an IP address, and Disney Land is the equivalent of a hostname. Website hosting is the equivalent of the land where Disney Land sits. So if you register a website address and get the name, you must also rent or purchase internet real estate or server space for your website to reside on. Likewise if you obtain website hosting but don’t register a website address, no one will know how to get to your website.

If you wanted your computer to look for www.npsis.com using the ip address 192.168.20.34, you would make an entry in your hostfile. The hostfile contains entries that look like this: 192.168.20.34 www.npsis.com. When you access the website www.npsis.com using your web browser, your computer would look for the ip address 192.168.65.14.

DNS (Domain Name System) is commonly used by Internet Service Providers to translate hostnames to IP addresses. When you type www.npsis.com or any other web address URL, your computer contacts a DNS server to find out what IP address is assigned to that domain name. All websites and servers have domain names if they are accessed over the internet.

It is important when selecting your website address that you pick a name that is easy to remember. The domain name should also reflect what your business does. For example the website address tomsgarage.com gives you a pretty good idea of what tom does for a living and its very easy to remember. You can also reserve multiple related domain names and point them at your website address as well. Have your website design store help you to incorporate several relevant key words into your website design and point all of your relevant website addressees at your website (i.e. wefixtires.com, bestlocaltireshop.com, toms-tires.com).

Domain names are typically done on a first come, first serve basis so if you have an idea for a good name you should register it before it is taken by someone else. There are many people and businesses who register and buy the most desirable domain names and resell them; this is usually for a higher cost than the original purchase price.

If you are dealing with a website design store or a web designer you will want to absolutely make sure that you own the domain name and not them. When you purchase a domain name yourself you better protect yourself from predators looking to take advantage of you.

Thinking to yourself there must be a better way?

May 26, 2008

by John Wallen

There was a time when a day wouldn’t go by and that thought of, there has to be a better way then this, would cross my mind. I know I’m not alone, that’s a very universal thought, I’m sure. Not to many of us have the kind of money it takes to start a business and getting into the right business is where it’s at. Working for someone else doesn’t get most people any where to quick!

I don’t even think about what it is I could get into when it comes to a business anymore. About four years ago I started keeping an eye on the internet to see what people were doing. It’s is amazing what people can do when they put their minds to it, in this new age. I started to see things differently and those closed minded notions I grew up with, were going away.

I got a buddy of mine interested in doing the same thing. After a while it was pretty entertaining, comparing the different internet opportunities we were finding. It is incredible, all the hype and garbage there is on the web. But we were both determined to find that one legitimate opportunity that was put together perfectly, an online business that was really working!

I was on the internet every spare minute I had, eventually talking to people, sending emails, finding out what it was they were actually doing. This is where you have to be careful because, most of these programs people want you to join do not work, their dead end opportunities. I followed many and after a few months, they are gone.

What we were seeing most of the time was no product worth marketing if any, and no training on the best ways to get traffic to your website. Everything might look like it’s put together well, but leaves you in the dust. You don’t want to rely on anyone but yourself to get your website seen. You want an opportunity were their members or the owners themselves teach you these skills.

Let me give you an example, because I market on the internet, I have an email address I allow other marketers to send information on products and opportunities. I get an email the other day directing me to a website, if I’m interested I check it out. It was a fairly professional website, offering me for only twenty dollars (very cheap) The very site I was looking at plus out dated ebooks and I could tell they were, about internet marketing.

If I joined this so called business, I would make twenty dollars doing the same thing this person was doing. But I’m not going to sell a scheme, the ebooks are outdated with information on marketing I would never use my self. Sure, because I know what I’m doing, I could maybe turn ten or more of these a day! I’ve seen things like this before as high as a hundred fifty dollars, and that’s fine. But I don’t want to deceive anyone with useless garbage.

You want a company that’s been around for a while, always updating their products. You want an opportunity that has live weekly internet training, with an online back office with more training archives and the best marketing tools. You want a business that has the potential to earn you thousands each month, paid directly to your bank account. You want to make at least seventy five percent commission, and I actually do better than that!

The Quick and Easy way to Start a Profitable Home Based Business

May 26, 2008

by Gene Higginbotham

The perfect Home Based Business will:

It must provide a very good full time income

2. Very low cost start up requirements

3. It should be simple enough that the whole family can be involved

4. It should require very little interfacing with people outside the home

5. There is no recruiting of my family and friends to “JOIN ME”

6. I should be showing a good profit within 6 months

7. Repeating income is a must

I have not found many Home Based Businesses that provide these benefits? My Real Estate Investment activities produced a fortune but was people intensive. My traditional MLM/Network Marketing efforts were disastrous; after failing ten times and losing about $10,000, I threw in the towel. I expect that MLM utilizing the INTERNET might be a completely different story.

I found what I was looking for with Internet Marketing of information products. We are deep into the information age and people are looking for answers and the place to get those answers is via the Internet Information Highway. There are information products available on the INTERNET on almost any subject. Most of which are provided by Affiliate Networks who pay excellent commissions to affiliates who promote and sell these products.

Send a blank email to me at WEALTHY AFFILIATE and I will send you a list of the top affiliate companies in the US.

Find an information product which addresses a problem or subject you have interest in and become an affiliate for that product. Promote the product as an affiliate and when sales occur due to your efforts, you will earn a nice commission which can often be as much as 75%. On a $100 product, you could earn as much as $75.

Promoting these affiliate products on the INTERNET is really a pretty simple thing to do. There are plenty of INFORMATION PRODUCTS on the INTERNET that lay out various methods for doing it. A combination of these techniques applied consistently with persistence could make a person a WEALTHY AFFILIATE. There are many, many people making $3,000, $5,000, $10,000 and even as high as $25,000 per month promoting other peoples products as affiliates over the INTERNET. Most of them use a repeatable system.
