4 Steps to Successful Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a way to make money online that doesn’t require you to have your own product. Instead, you promote other people’s products or services and get paid a commission. To find success there are four general steps. These include doing the initial research, getting traffic, finding a product, and converting the traffic into sales.
Doing the Initial Research
Before you even get started with affiliate marketing, you need to understand that providing excellent content in the form of articles or blog posts is the key to your success. In order to do this, you need to find a subject that people are searching for information on. This is where the research comes in.
There are several ways to go about obtaining this information such as searching on the internet, using keyword generation tools, or just keeping your eyes open. Do you and the people around you seem to have a need for certain information? See if you can capitalize on that.
Getting Traffic
Once you’ve determined that a topic is a good one to work with, your next goal will be to get traffic. An important way to do this is to find excellent keywords for your content. First, start a blog or a website on the subject you chose. Then, find a good keyword. Try to reserve your domain name or blog URL if it is a free service with the keyword in it.
As a general guideline you’ll want to find keywords that get a decent amount of traffic. There are a lot of different methods for doing this including typing the phrase in Google and using more advanced techniques.
Once you find keywords that you want to use, your next step is to write helpful articles using the keywords. Choose one keyword and turn that into your title. Pay per click and article marketing are other methods of getting traffic.
Find the Product
Your next step is to find a product to promote that is related to the subject of your blog or website. Look for one that awards a decent commission of around 50% or so – that way you can make a good amount of money per sale. Also make sure the sales letter for the product looks convincing and professional and that the product has been getting good reviews if it’s been around for a while.
Sign up for the program and get your unique affiliate URL. Just put a few links for the product on your blog or website or directly into your articles.
Convert the Traffic to Sales
Your last step is to make sure some of your traffic is actually making you a sale. The most important thing you can do is make sure that your articles or blog posts are well written. Also, you want to somehow compel the reader to click on your affiliate link. There are several ways to do that. An example of this would be to say, “For more information about the subject, click here,” and then include the link.

Before I tell you exactly “what” an Affiliate Landmine is - I want to tell you about how I stumbled upon this concept.
A little over 3 years ago, right after I had finished wrestling practice, I called my wife to see if she wanted me to pick up anything for dinner. Before I could ask her anything, she told me that we had received 4 checks in the mail that day for a little over $300!
Now that may not appear like a lot to you, but for a couple of starving college kids, that was a fortune! Because of that we ate out!
When I got home and looked at the checks, I realized that I had no idea who they were from. I had to do quite a bit of research online before I realized that they were checks from an affiliate program I had joined nearly a year earlier.
I hadn’t really tried to promote or sell any of their products in over 9 months - but during the time I had promoted it, I had unknowingly created some Affiliate Landmines that were starting to produce checks!

I started to create new Landmines every month and have continued to do so since then. I now get multiple check (just like in the picture above) every week!

Again, don't flood a page with links but add links inside the content and not just at the bottom of your pages or on the navigation bars. Furthermore, refrain from using links that just describe the product name or show the domain of the affiliated site. It’s far better to use anchor text such as “Get relief from your back pain today” than a simple link such as www.amazingwebsiteaboutbackpainrelief.us.uk
3. Create painful, focused content
It is far better to use content that ties in directly with the visitor’s pain and predominant problems. Therefore, the reader will feel more inclined to take action after being presold with your content. For example, you could write an article about the different types of back pain and a few ways to temporarily relieve it, but then provide plenty of affiliate links to the only real solution.
These are just some of the ways you can increase website conversions for affiliate offers, but I admit that they take time and effort to craft and test.
Creating content that presell’s people is a great affiliate marketing model, but by no means the easiest way to make large commissions from affiliate marketing.
