Coming Up With Ideas To Create Your Information Product Empire

by Carl Pruitt

When you make the decision to market information products on the ‘net, your first step is conducting some niche research to see which target audience could provide you with a virtual goldmine of profits.

You cannot limit yourself to a single product for a narrow niche audience and expect to gain financial security for the long term from one product. Instead, you have to tap into a niche with enough possibilities to make product development worthwhile.

Say you have decided to create a eBook planning guide for weddings as your first info product for sale. A beginner in the information product business might want to start by creating a detailed product that covers all the details A to Z.

Take a look at from the viewpoint of an experienced market. It takes a lot of effort and time and money to build traffic to a website where a 2% conversion rate is good for an information product. Does it make sense to waste that effort for one $47 sale with no follow up instead of creating a lifetime stream of profit from that customer?

How can you do this? Information products serve the needs of your audience. A bride and groom have many issues they want to consider, and you can create dozens of guides that focus on things they need to know, such as How to Have a Destination Wedding at Home where you discuss how to hold a theme wedding in your backyard. Or, A Guide to Seasonal Flowers for Brides.

At times, however, a single comprehensive product is the best way to go. After all, they should ideally only need to get married once. On the other hand, they may need specialized information rather than a more expensive comprehensive book. For instance, information on shopping for a wedding cake, or home made bridesmaids gifts for the bride on a budget.

After you deliver your first great information product to your customer, you will have them on your mailing list. You can then market your follow up or back end products to them. This is where the big money in information marketing is hiding because your marketing expenses are almost non-existent and your sales conversion rates are higher for that customer who is already in your fold.

So make sure that you have fully explored the future product potential of your niche before you dive into product development. Check to be certain the niche provides the opportunity for branching out into a new line of products offering solutions to your customers’ other problems.
