Making Podcasts Work for Your Business

With the growth in popularity of portable on demand information, many business owners are asking how they can use podcasts for marketing their own products. No matter what you are trying to sell, reaching this market segment is one more clever way to grow your client base. Before you begin podcasting, you must outline your goals for doing so.

Rather than just linking to podcast files on your website, you have the option of listing your podcasts with distributors, or RSS feeds. Just as in other forms of syndication, it allows people to receive files automatically as new podcasts become available. This will build your reputation while you are getting your name out to prospects and current clients. You can also find sponsors for your podcasts if they are downloaded at a high rate.

Choose to either allow your website visitors to download podcasts or to list your podcasts through RSS feeds, or both. Signing up for automatic distribution means people will receive your podcasts as soon as they are updated. If a large number of people subscribe to your podcast, you should consider looking for a sponsor. Sponsors are eager to be connected with this growing media outlet.

Listening to as many different podcasts as you will give you an idea of what you might like to do with yours. Subscribe to your competitors’ podcasts and also others outside your market sector. Companies that sell different products, but who cater to the same niche might give you innovative ideas about how to market to your prospects.

To record and edit podcasts, you only need a microphone with your computer, recording software and ample storage space with your internet host. If you want to put your podcast on your website, you will need to provide a link for visitors to download the file. Getting your podcasts listed with directory services can also boost your website traffic.

Some people already have some experience manipulating different types of digital files. If this includes you, consider using existing videos that you may have as podcast audio footage. You can also podcast videos as they are or even broadcast pdfs.

Podcasts are especially effective for promoting e-books or regular books. You can get feedback from listeners incredibly quickly. This lets you know if you have a winning concept or not. You can do this even before you have finished a book to know if you’re on the right track.

As with any type of newsletter, e-zine, or regular publication, you must be able to provide helpful content regarding your industry on a consistent basis. This means budgeting the right amount of time and money to do so. If you can build a large enough subscriber base, you know that podcasting is a worthwhile venture for your company because of the online visibility and credibility it can provide.
