Questions You Must Answer Before Your Website Goes Live
Either you have a website and you’ve got questions as to how effective it is, or you are thinking about getting a website to help you grow your business. Regardless of where you’re at in the online marketing world, you need solid answers to these five questions before you will be able to craft an effective online presence.
- Does your website have a goal? Many websites are designed to generate sales while others are educational websites. Still other websites’ entire purpose is to gather leads. Take the time to think of the goal of your website. The design of your website depends on your goals. If you’re not clear on those goals, your website won’t be effective.
- Does your website have a specific demographic or group of people in mind? As you make your website, all of your content, pictures, even the specific words you choose will need to be targeted towards your audience. A website for doctors will be different from a website for patients.
- What is the most effective path for your website visitors to follow? Depending on your website goal, you will want most of your customers to enter your home page and then proceed to a specific destination. Map this out before hand to capitalize off of each visitor. Make sure you make your website’s links simple and easy to use. Fancy animated links are difficult for the search engines to read.
- Have you encouraged your website visitors to take action? Nearly all websites, in order to be profitable, will need the website visitor to take action. Your site’s call to action should be simple, clear, and easy to accomplish. Words like “Click here to purchase” or “Sign up for our newsletter” should be clearly visible and the task easily accomplished.
- How will you gauge the effectiveness of your website? Are you trying to generate large numbers of visitors? Do you want people to sign up? Do you want people to purchase items from your store? Do you want people to come to a physical location? Whatever your goal, you need some way of measuring it. Otherwise, how will you know what works and what doesn’t?
Regardless of if you’re designing your own website or are paying a professional to design one for you, you need clear answers to each of these questions before taking the next step. The clearer and more concrete your answers are, the more effective your website will be. And we all know what a more effective website means- taking your business to the next level!
