What Makes a Good Article?

October 3, 2008

We all know the raw power and efficiency of online marketing through article publication.  All of us can even say that article marketing is the most potent and most affordable internet advertising tactic that has been invented since the creation of the digital realm.

Simply put, if you’re running an internet enterprise, you have to resort to marketing with articles.

However, one of the most common questions I get is this: how can I prepare a good article?

This indicates that even if most online entrepreneurs realize that they have to use article marketing, not all of them are capable enough to craft a web-worthy piece of informative content.

Therefore, I have listed some easy to follow guidelines on how you can craft the perfect good article for internet marketing purposes.

  1. Know the subject you want to write about.

  2. Don’t settle for a broad topic.  Break it down to a smaller topic that people will be interested in.  By way of example, don’t write about the broad topic of “dogs.”  Try to determine a sub-topic that will tickle the fancies of the people you will be targeting.  Usually, this sub-topic refers to a specific demand, like “dog training” for dog owners who are experiencing difficulty when it comes to living with their disobedient pets, or “dog grooming” for owners with allergies who can’t survive the smell of their dirty canine companions.  You have to find a sub-topic that will click.  This is very important.  Most articles fail because they don’t tackle a more specific subject.
  3. Because the sub-topic should reflect a need, your article must be able to share a solution.  However, depending on the usage of your article, the answer you will share will vary.  To illustrate, if you’re going to use the article to promote a product, then hold back on the solution you will provide.  Your aim, in such a situation, is to provide the impression that you know what you’re talking about, and invite your readers to study what you will be offering.  Keep this in mind as you prepare your article.
  4. Come up with a catchy seeking title that is simple but nevertheless exciting.  People will click on your article if they will be hooked by its title.  If not, no one will view what you have prepared.
  5. Remember that an article has 3 essential components: the opening, the body, and the conclusion.  The opening will state to your audience what your work is all about.  You can share a surprising fact, a gut-wrenching statistic, or a witty analogy to shake your audience into realizing that yes, you are the real deal.  The body will discuss the information you wish to relay, of course.  And the conclusion will summarize the problem, the given solution, as well as deliver some calls to action (i.e. click my link) if needed.
  6. What is the prescribed length for articles? I’d say that 300 to 750 words would be fantastic!

These are just some basic tips for article writing.  It is not difficult to write a good article all it takes is a little preparation and a little thought.  With time you will find it gets a lot quicker.  For more tips on writing a good article and other ways you can increase your website traffic take a look at Marketeermum.
